Extraordinary Ministers of Communion
3/12/2009
General Principles
Please ensure that you find a replacement for yourself if you are unable to attend the Mass you have been allocated.
Please arrive in good time [tabernacle minister to sit near tabernacle).
The number of Ministers required at each mass:
Vigil Mass 4 ciboria (including priest), 6 chalices
9 am   2 ciboria (including priest), 4 chalices
10.30 am 4 ciboria (including priest), 6 chalices
6 pm 2 ciboria (including priest), 4 chalices   (We do not have a rota for this Mass. Normally there is no shortage of ministers. Please share the privilege so that everyone has an opportunity)
Please also remember that, if there are other priests or deacons on the altar, then less Extraordinary Ministers will be required.

Liturgy of the Eucharist:
Chalice Minister
Make the sign peace to those nearest to you and then make your way to the foot of the sanctuary and wait for the other extraordinary ministers to gather;  then all together bow and go straight into position at the sides of the altar
Those distributing the host go directly to the credence tables to wash hands.
Tabernacle Minister
Be aware of how long it will take you personally to get to the tabernacle, wash your fingers, open the doors and get out the veiled ciborium: therefore, either leave during the ‘Our Father’ or make the sign of peace to those nearest to you and then make your way to the tabernacle and collect the Blessed Sacrament.
Leave from the Tabernacle during the ‘Lamb of God’.
The aim is to arrive at the Altar while the priest is saying his private prayers [after the Lamb of God] so that you can place the ciborium on the corporal and genuflect at the same time as he does. He then will remove the lid and its veil; then go to your place.
After Holy Communion, the priest will place all the Hosts in the closed Ciborium: you then genuflect on the step with him and he will hand you the ciborium for you to return to the Tabernacle.

Holy Communion to the sick
Please ensure that you keep your pyx and linen clean. After the concluding prayer, the priest gives you the pyx and  the blessing you need to leave straight away;  you do not need to wait for the final blessing as you are extending the rite of Communion to the person you are taking the host to.

Altar servers receiving communion
From this weekend we are instituting a small change to the distribution of communion which should eliminate some unnecessary movement and increase our reverence for the Blessed Sacrament.
From now on the Altar servers will receive communion on the sanctuary instead of leaving the Sanctuary to receive communion and then returning to the Sanctuary afterwards.
The Servers will align themselves along the benches either side of the Altar and they will receive Communion there. The Host will be administered by the minister on each side designated RC and LC ie the ministers that would stand at the side aisles for distribution. Each minister will turn and move along in front of the servers distributing Communion and then proceed to the head of the side aisle as normal.
The chalice will be administered by the Minister who would be nearest the side aisle and this Minister would follow the Ciborium.
Where there are only two ciboria then distribution will be by the Tabernacle Minister and the Celebrant.
The Altar servers will be briefed this weekend at the practices.
