"I went to Lourdes last year and it was amazing, so this time I was a little apprehensive that it was going to be as good. However once again Lourdes had a massive impact on my life and it enhanced my faith greatly, especially in the first mass in Lourdes when you look around and see thousands of people there celebrating their faith with you. It is an opportunity to meet some of the most wonderful, like-minded people, gathered together in one place. I could go on for hours about how amazing and life changing it is however I’m not sure we have time for that, but i just want to say that if you haven’t been before you should definitely consider it." Lara Hansford

“For me Lourdes was, without a shadow of doubt, the best 10 days of my life. It is difficult to describe why, so I will use the words of our youth leader, Ray Mooney – ‘faith, fun and friendship.’ The atmosphere in Lourdes is amazing too, everyone greets you with a smile and as if they have known you forever. It is a place where you just know that God is present. In Lourdes it was also great to have quiet times, at the Grotto, candle bank or even when we were sitting by the river, when one passer by said ‘it was lovely to see so many young people quiet, still and praying.’ For me, Lourdes gave me the time to think about things that are important” Beth Ward

After going to Lourdes we realized that we need a place for young people to get together and talk, joke, laugh, eat and pray. We started a youth-group last year and it was very successful however we need more people there to make it even better. If you are, or you know people in year 10 to 12 who are looking for a place to meet new people and talk about their experiences, then please come along, bring other people and make this year the best yet. We meet once a month and currently we have a big fundraising concert planned with the other churches in weybridge in November to raise money for the people of Pakistan.”

Weybridge Parish Youth Group

Who is it for?

The Youth Group is open to all in years 10-12. We welcome new people, especially those being confirmed in 2011, or confirmed in 2010. The young people come from all local schools – Salesians, St George’s, SJB, Notre Dame, Heathside, Halliford amongst others. Our goal is to help young people find their place in the Church, moving into adulthood. We meet for faith, fun, friendship and...food!

About the Pope's visit:
“As the Pope pulled into Hyde Park and the Vigil started, a penetrating silence overcame the crowds as we so desperately wanted to absorb every word he had to say. Familiar faces were also sighted on the big screens, such as our newly ordained deacon, Gerard Hatton, receiving the monstrance from the Pope and laying it on the altar. We stood in awe.  By the end of the momentous vigil of prayer with its renewal of faith and strength we all cheered for our leader as he retreated back for some well earned rest. That evening, I saw a fragility and beauty which touched me deeply. My faith felt renewed. This is the aspect of the Vigil that struck me the most. Though scarred and challenged, faith is healed up through the common belief that God provides salvation for us all.” Joe Simon
